Dwell: The Practice of Meditating on God’s Word

Over and over again God calls us to meditate and to dwell on His words and in His presence. Jesus modeled this as He lived on earth and showed His disciples how to see their Heavenly Father! We want to learn how to set aside time every day and meditate on His Word and worship Him in our hearts. As we read these Psalms (and any part of His Word) we want to dwell on these areas of our lives. Take time to read the Word and allow it to direct your prayers and thoughts in these four ways.

  • Head

What does this Psalm reveal to me about WHO GOD IS? Take some time to dwell on these truths and praise God for who He is. How does this Psalm show me His character, attributes, power, and personality? Worship God for who He is and let your “Head” believe these truths.

  • Heart

Our worship of God should change our hearts. Who He is should impact who we are and how we respond to Him. As we worship God through this Psalm it should also direct us into changing our hearts and lives. As you dwell on His character, how is He leading you to respond and find rest in Him?

  • Hands

As you think of your day or week in front of you God wants you to see how relevant He is in your life. How do this Psalm and these truths apply to your day or week? What is God specifically asking you to do in response to His Word and your life? Take some time to dwell on the impact these truths should have and the actions He may be calling you to.

  • Hope

Take this time to dwell on these truths and ask God to change your heart. God wants to know your needs and desires. What can you ask God for that is in line with His heart and this Psalm? Who does God bring to mind as you think of these truths and how can you pray for them? How may God want to use you in their lives?
